Job-scam warning signs

• You must pay to apply, train or receive equipment.
• A recruiter sends a check and asks you to buy equipment or return money.
• The interview and hiring process happen entirely through text or a personal email address.
• The job promises unusually high pay for vague or minimal work.
• Sensitive banking or identity information is requested before verified onboarding.
• You are pressured to act immediately or keep the opportunity secret.

Never deposit a check and forward money. Verify the employer through its official website and contact information.

Marketplace safety

Before buying:

• Verify the seller, actual item, condition, final price and buyer protection.
• Avoid gift cards, wire transfers and cryptocurrency.

Before selling:

• Confirm payment inside the real payment account; screenshots and emails can be fake.
• Reject overpayment checks and never share login or verification codes.

For in-person exchanges:

• Meet in a staffed public location during active hours.
• Tell someone where you are going and bring another person when practical.
• Leave immediately when the situation changes or feels unsafe.
