When you receive a formal notice

  2. Identify the issuing office, deadline, required response and consequence of no response.
  3. Preserve the original message, envelope, screenshots and related documents.
  4. Follow the exact response, review or appeal process named in the notice.
  5. Ask the issuing office to clarify anything uncertain before the deadline.
