Before using AI or working with someone else

1. Read the assignment, rubric and syllabus.
2. Identify whether the work is individual or collaborative.
3. Check whether AI is prohibited, permitted for limited tasks or required.
4. Ask the professor about the exact planned use when unclear.
5. Follow any citation, disclosure or process requirements.
6. Keep your notes, drafts, sources and revision history.

High-risk uses

Do not:

• Submit AI-generated work as your own when that use was not authorized.
• Use answer keys, solution manuals or unauthorized assistance.
• Divide individual work among classmates and combine the answers.
• Have another person complete or substantially rewrite the assignment.
• Reuse old work without citation and prior faculty approval.
• Invent sources, quotations, data or experiences.
• Use AI to hide your voice or create a false account of what you did.

Protect private information

Never enter protected patient, client or student information into a public AI tool.
